Some may suppose that working at a security firm limits your perspective of what’s on the market within the broader trade, however I discovered the alternative to be true. I gained a deeper understanding of how organizations consider security options and what they really care about. I noticed firsthand the challenges clients confronted when implementing security instruments, and that have gave me empathy, perception, and a renewed means to talk their language.
Now that I’m again in trade, I’m bringing that perspective with me. The transition wasn’t a step “down” or a shift away from something; it was simply the subsequent part in my profession. Reflecting on my time as a CISO at a security vendor, I’m grateful for what the position taught me. It pressured me to carry myself and my workforce to the next normal, realizing that our security practices have been underneath fixed scrutiny. It gave me the chance to form the corporate’s worth proposition by means of transparency and proof. And it reaffirmed that the position of a CISO, no matter the place you sit, is to be each a protector and a bridge-builder, driving belief inside and outdoors the group.
