French police arrest Russian basketball participant accused of ransomware: report

French authorities have arrested a Russian skilled basketball participant who’s accused of being a member of a ransomware gang, in line with newswire Agence France-Presse. 

Daniil Kasatkin performs for MBA Moscow, a group that’s a part of the VTB United League, which contains principally Russian golf equipment in addition to one group from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Kasatkin briefly performed for Penn State through the 2018-2019 season. 

The AFP reported that U.S. authorities consider Kasatkin moonlit as a ransomware hacker. Kasatkin was arrested at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on June 21.

Kasatkin’s lawyer Frederic Belot advised the AFP that his consumer is harmless.

“He purchased a used laptop. He did completely nothing flawed. He’s shocked,” Belot advised AFP.

“He’s ineffective with computer systems. He can’t even set up an app. He didn’t contact something on this laptop. It was both hacked, or bought to him by a hacker who wished to cross himself off as another person.”
