A covert Russian government-operated social media bot farm that used generative AI to unfold disinformation to international customers has been disrupted by a joint FBI-international cybersecurity forces operation.
Associates of a Russian state-sponsored media group Russia In the present day (RT), used Meliorator — an AI-enabled bot farm technology and administration software program–to arrange over 1000 X (previously Twitter) bots for spreading disinformation in and about many international locations, together with the US, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Ukraine, and Israel.
“The social media bot farm used parts of AI to create fictitious social media profiles — usually purporting to belong to people in the USA — which the operators then used to advertise messages in assist of Russian authorities aims, in line with affidavits unsealed right now,” the Justice Division mentioned in a press assertion.
